International students seeking temporary visas in Australia will be rejoicing by the Department of Immigration and Border Protections’ decision to lower the English requirement.
The ‘485 Graduate Temporary visa’ will have loosened regulations on the English test scores that will come into effect on April 18.
To be eligible for the current 485 Graduate Temporary visa applicants must
- be younger than 50 years of age
- be in Australia
- hold an eligible visa
- meet the two-year Australian study requirement
- have at least competent English
- have recently graduated with either an eligible qualification or with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the skilled occupation list (SOL).
Director of Education Policy Department of Immigration and Border Protection Mike Ferguson said, “English language test scores for temporary skilled visa applicants are subject to specification in a legislative instrument by the Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection.”
